Frequently Asked Questions
What therapeutic approaches do you use?
My goal is to provide you with practical, evidence-based strategies that help you find balance, develop new skills, and improve your overall quality of life. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Training, Positive Psychology, and Solution-Focused Therapy in my practice.
In your first session, we’ll explore what brought you to therapy and then decide together which approaches will best support your progress.
Are you currently accepting new clients? How do I start therapy?
Yes, I am currently accepting new clients! To begin, simply click on the “Request an Appointment” tab. After requesting an appointment, you’ll receive a welcome email with instructions for creating your therapy account and completing intake forms. Once those are submitted, you’ll be ready for your first session.
How long is a typical therapy session? What can I expect?
Sessions are typically 45–50 minutes. We usually begin by checking in on how things have gone since our last meeting and reviewing any therapy homework or goals. From there, most of our time is spent exploring your thoughts and feelings, identifying solutions, and practicing new skills and strategies to help you manage challenges more effectively.
How often should I attend therapy?
In the beginning, I often recommend weekly sessions for about 6–8 weeks, as this helps create momentum. After that, we will adjust the frequency based on your needs. For example, someone navigating a crisis may benefit from continuing weekly sessions, while another person experiencing a life transition may find every-other-week sessions helpful.
The beauty of individual therapy is that it is tailored to you. Together, we will create a treatment plan that fits your goals and pace.
What happens during the first appointment?
Your first session is an intake appointment, where we discuss what brings you to therapy and what you hope to achieve. I will ask questions to better understand your background, strengths, and concerns. This session also allows us to get to know one another and determine which approaches and interventions will be most helpful for you.
How long does therapy usually take?
Therapy looks different for everyone. Many clients find that 10–12 sessions provide a strong foundation for growth and lasting change, while others may need more or fewer sessions. The length of therapy depends on your goals, commitment, and life circumstances.
My priority is to collaborate with you in creating a plan that is both effective and efficient. Remember, healing is a process—progress may not always be linear, and that is completely normal. When the time comes to end therapy, we will work together to ensure you feel confident and supported in that transition.
Can I contact you between sessions?
Yes. For urgent concerns, you may request an appointment through the therapy portal. For non-urgent matters, you are welcome to reach out via secure email or text.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy offers a safe, supportive, and confidential space to explore your thoughts and feelings, strengthen your well-being, and learn new ways of navigating challenges.
If you find yourself feeling stuck, struggling with a recurring problem, or simply wishing for more support, therapy may be beneficial. During our work together, we will clarify your goals and build a plan that helps you grow and thrive.
How do I know if we are a good fit?
The relationship between therapist and client is one of the strongest predictors of progress in therapy. It is important that you feel comfortable, understood, and able to share openly. I will regularly check in about how therapy feels for you and invite feedback to ensure your needs are being met.
I work from an inclusive, culturally responsive, anti-racist, LGBTQ+ affirming, and social-justice-oriented perspective. If at any point your needs fall outside my scope of practice, I will provide you with trusted referrals.
What does therapy cost?
Intake session: $175
Ongoing sessions: $165
I accept all major credit cards, FSA/HSA cards, and Bishop/Clergy pay.
If you wish to use your out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with a superbill (an itemized receipt) to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
How do you accept payment?
A credit card is securely kept on file for all telehealth sessions. Your card will be charged on the day of your appointment. I accept:
All major credit cards
FSA/HSA cards
Bishop/Clergy pay
Do you take insurance?
I do not bill insurance directly, but as an out-of-network provider, I can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Each plan is different, so please check with your insurance company to learn more about your out-of-network benefits.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes the necessary information your insurance company may need to process reimbursement for therapy sessions. Depending on your plan, they may reimburse you directly or apply payments toward your deductible.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
Under federal law, clients who are not using insurance have the right to a Good Faith Estimate (GFE). This document outlines the expected costs of your mental health care.
Because it is not possible to predict exactly how many sessions you may need, the GFE is an estimate based on what is known at the time. If your charges exceed your estimate by $400 or more, you have the right to dispute the bill.
For more information, visit cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
Do you offer in-person or telehealth sessions?
At this time, I offer telehealth sessions only through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Many clients appreciate the convenience, comfort, and flexibility of meeting virtually from their own space.
Do you offer therapy for children, families, or couples?
I work exclusively with adults (18+) and do not offer child, family, or couples counseling. However, I do provide:
Parenting-focused therapy for parents and caregivers
Women’s support groups
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations or reschedules must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
First late cancellation or no-show: $75 fee
Subsequent late cancellations or no-shows: $125 fee
This policy ensures I can offer appointments to clients on the waiting list and maintain high-quality care.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything you share is confidential and protected by HIPAA. Confidentiality is one of the most important parts of building trust in therapy.
The only exceptions, as required by law, are situations involving risk of harm to yourself or others, or suspected abuse of a child, elder, or dependent adult.
